Has this lie ever come to mind?

“God’s disappointment runs deeper than His forgiveness.”

Or maybe it’s simply, “He is upset with me.”

Don’t feel alone in this — haven’t we all felt this way? Be honest.

If this resonates with you, let me remind your heart of how loving our Father truly is. It may take time to fully understand His forgiveness, but once we grasp it, we learn what to strive for when it’s our turn to forgive others.

For this lie to be true, we would have to forfeit His character.

2 Peter 3:9 tells us two things:One, the Lord is slow to anger. Two, He is patient with us.

Wow — the Lord is patient with His children. Why?

Psalm 103:7–14 gives us everything we need to understand why this lie is truly a lie.

Where we expect condemnation, there is compassion instead. The Lord does not treat us as our sins deserve because of His mercy toward His children — toward you. He is all-knowing. He is fully aware of our flaws and temptations and is never surprised by our weaknesses. He knew all of this and still chose the cross. He still chose you.

Is that condemnation or compassion?

The Lord is not disappointed by your sins — He grieves them (Genesis 6:5–6). Because His love for us is not based on performance or expectation, it is based on His unchanging character.

Hebrews 13:8 reminds us that He never changes.

So take heart. He has made a way of forgiveness, not disappointment, by bearing the burden of His own wrath against sin on our behalf.

The old has gone; the new is here.

2 Corinthians 5:18–21

“All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. And He has committed to us the message of reconciliation. We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making His appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God. God made Him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God.”

You can’t disappoint someone who is never surprised.

Follow the Word, not the herd.
